Demand For Massage Therapists Increases As Interest In BenefitsOf Massage Creates More Converts
The projections of the SU Department of Labor employment opportunities provided for massage therapists to grow by 18 to 26 percent from 2004-2014. According to the magazine's 2006-2007 Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment outlook for massage therapists "will increase faster than average" during the period 2004-2014. The Office defines "faster than average" and "increased from 18 to 26 percent." Among the reasons for the growing demand for massage therapists, the publication refers to the growing acceptance "of massage therapy as a medical tool." Apparently, younger Americans appreciate the effectiveness of massage to reduce stress through relaxation and growing segment of older Americans are experiencing specific therapeutic benefits. The availability of the provider of "health insurance and industry" to recommend and cover the costs of massage therapy is another growth factor cited by the Bureau. There are about 1,300 schools in post-massage therapy, programs for college and training programs throughout the country. After inclusion in a training program, massage therapy study of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and other topics that cover the structure and function of the human body. Students should understand how the body moves and how the different reference systems and to interact. Students also learn the different types of massage, or "modalities", and learn the techniques associated with all forms of massage that provides the training. There are dozens of approaches ranging from unique massage techniques that focus on a specific area of the techniques of close combat that the comprehensive approach and examine the physical and mental health and relaxation. SU Department of Labor estimates that massage therapists held about 97,000 jobs in 2004. Most massage therapists are self-employed and own their own business. The balance are independent contractors or employees of companies that offer massage services. This includes spas, gyms, medical and sports organizations. An aging population and greater acceptance of alternative medical practices can only increase the demand for massage therapists. Baby-boomers bring their thanks for the message in their senior years and older, in general, recognize the benefits of massage as a support for a more active lifestyle. The companies have begun offering on-site massages for employees to help deal with stress at work and help improve productivity. Insurance companies are recognizing the contribution to global health massage and many are even massage in coverage. The outlook is bright for the practitioner and perspectives. Job offers great flexibility and the ability to operate independently. Income levels are fair and in the growth and social aspects are very attractive for those who want to help and interact with many different people. Enrollment in the school of massage is growing and good schools, ambitious students and an increase in demand bodes well for the future masseurs.
